This document specifies the Composition Playlist structure. The Composition Playlist is a self-contained representation of a single complete D-Cinema work, such as a motion picture, or a trailer, or an advertisement, etc. The Composition Playlist consists of an ordered sequence of Reel structures, each referencing a set of external Track Files, e.g. a sound or picture Track File, which are meant to be reproduced in parallel. Each Reel is analogous to a film reel and the Composition Playlist controls the order and timing of the playout of the Reels.

This standard presents a specification for Digital Certificates for use in D-Cinema systems. The standard defines the Digital Certificate format and associated processing rules in sufficient detail to enable vendors to develop and implement interoperable security solutions. In the D-Cinema environment, certificates have these primary applications: ~ Establishing identity of security devices ~ Supporting secure communications at the network layer (e.g. TLS) or application-messaging layer (e.g., Extra Theater Messages [ETM]) ~ Authentication and integrity requirements for Composition Play Lists (CPL) and Packing Lists (PL) The Digital Certificate standard is based on a constrained form of the X.509v3 [X.509] format and processing rules. Only the most widely supported features of X.509v3 are used in order to give vendors a large selection of X.509v3 development toolkits and certificate issuing products. The constraints also avoid the complexity and ambiguity that often occurs in systems that use X.509v3 certificates.

This specification defines a "Key Delivery Message" (KDM) for use in Digital Cinema (D-Cinema) systems The KDM has been designed to deliver security parameters and usage dghts between D-Cinema content processing centers (eg from post production to distribution, or from distribution to exhibition) The KDM carries fundamentally three information types: ~ Content keys for a specified Composition Play List (CPL) ~ Content key parameters - primarily the permitted key usage date/time window ~ The Trusted Device List (TDL) which identifies equipment permitted to use the content keys The KDM is based on the D-Cinema generic Extra-Theater Message (ETM) format [ETM]. It uses XML to represent the information about the content decryption keys and TDLs, and provides security using standardized XML encryption and signature primitives. The KDM message uses X509 digital certificates, specified in [D-Cinema Digital Certificate], to provide authentication and trust NOTE - The brackets convention "[ ]" as used herein denotes either a normative or informative reference.
