To describe laboratory methods for determining and reporting the contaminant level of the wetted portion of hydraulic fluid power components, parts, subsystems and systems, and of fill fluids. For each type of item it provides a method of obtaining the liquid sample and the contamination level thereof. It also includes procedures for establishing a sampling plan and guidelines for establishing levels of acceptance, but does not set those levels. To provide a basis for measuring and reporting cleanliness levels so that built-in contamination and premature failures of hydraulic systems can minimized.

This SAE Recommended Practice defines the information required to repair the various types of plastics found on modern light-duty highway vehicles. Information is included for the repair and refinishing of most plastic body parts, both interior and exterior. Repair information is described for all commonly used plastics including, but not limited to, polyurethanes, polycarbonate blends, modified polypropylenes, polyethylenes, and nylons. Repairs can be made to these types of plastics using two-part (2K) repair adhesives, plastic welding, and other materials available from body shop suppliers. When a new type of plastic is being introduced to the market through a new vehicle program, specific repair and refinishing procedures should be provided, following the format in this document. Sheet molded compounds (SMC), fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) and carbon fiber reinforced plastics can also be repaired using slightly different procedures and repair materials.

This document establishes recommended practices to validate acceptable corrosion performance of metallic components and assemblies used in medium truck, heavy truck, and bus and trailer applications. The focus of the document is methods of accelerated testing and evaluation of results. A variety of test procedures are provided that are appropriate for testing components at various locations on the vehicle. The procedures incorporate cyclic conditions including corrosive chemicals, drying, humidity, and abrasive exposure. These procedures are intended to be effective in evaluating a variety of corrosion mechanisms as listed in Table 1. Test duration may be adjusted to achieve any desired level of exposure. Aggravating conditions such as joint rotation, mechanical stress, and temperature extremes are also considered. This document does not address the chemistry of corrosion or methods of corrosion prevention. For information in these areas, refer to SAE J447 or similar standard.

This SAE Standard specifies the test methods and procedures necessary to evaluate electrical components intended for automotive use to the threat of Electrostatic Discharges (ESDs). It describes test procedures for evaluating electrical components on the bench in the powered-up mode and for packaging and handling non-powered mode. A procedure for calibrating the simulator that is used for electrostatic discharges is given in Appendix A. An example of how to calculate the RC Time Constant is given in Appendix B. Functional Performance Status Classifications for immunity to ESD and Sensitivity classifications for ESD sensitive devices are given in Appendix C.

This SAE Standard describes head position contours and procedures for locating the contours in a vehicle. Head position contours are useful in establihing accommodation requirements for head space and are required for several measures defined in SAE J 1100. Separate contours are defined depending on occupant seat location and the desired percentage (95 and 99) of occupant accommodation. This document is primarily focused on application to Class A vehicles (see SAE J 1100), which include most personal-use vehicles (passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, pick-up trucks). This document provides a method/ procedure for specifying the properties of vulcanized elastomeric materials (natural rubber or synthetic rubbers, alone or in combination) that are intended for, but not limited to, use in rubber products for automotive applications. This document covers materials that do not contain any re-use; recycled; or regrind materials unless otherwise agreed to by manufacturer and end user. The use of such materials, including maximum % must be specified using a "Z" suffix. This classification system covers thermoset High Consistency Elastomers (HCE's) only. Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) materials are classified using SAE J2558.
