1.1 本标准涵盖了最小屈服强度为345MPa(50ksi)，适用于海上结构的轧制型钢（宽翼缘型钢、角钢等）。根据API RP 2A中8.1.3所描述的临界断裂等级为A级、B级和C级的型钢应用较为普遍，最低应用等级为C级。对于关键部位，根据8.14，经协商可使用AAZ级型钢。 1.2 当买主有附加试验要求或有附加限制条件时，应提供补充要求。只有在订购单中指定时，这些要求才适用。 1.3 当型钢需焊接时，应采用适用于该型钢等级及其适用或服务目的的焊接工艺。在AWS引用该规范前，为满足AWS D1.1焊接工艺认证要求，应符合以下条件： a）填充金属（AWS D1.1中表3.1）应与Ⅱ类钢相符； b）预热（AWS D1.1中表3.2）应与B类钢（对于A-QST级为D类）一致； c）焊接韧性（AWS D1.1中表C4.2和表C4.3）应与A、B、C级钢一致。 也可使用其它有利的预热方式（AWS D1.1中附件Ⅺ）。 1.4 如果热矫正、加热或加温成型，或温度高于565℃（1050℉）的焊后热处理，对热轧、控轧、正火轧或正火以外方法制造的A级型钢进行处理，应符合8.6的要求。 1.5 经双方协商同意，本标准可用作购买其他国际标准的轧制型钢的补充要求，例如Euronorm ISO或者JIS。在这种情况下，参考的ASTM A 6 可由其他同类国际标准替代。使用者应标明不同于A 6 型钢的尺寸和设计特性，但等效截面应更大一些。
