The standards contained herein apply to recording equipment intended primarily for installation in multi-engine, turbine powered aircraft (fixed and rotary wing) for automatically recording flight data parameters and audio information. This standard is not intended for large aircraft operating under Code of Federal Regulations Title 14, Aeronautics & Space, part 121. This Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies minimum performance standards for recording automatically aircraft flight par ammeters and (or) aural communication between flight crew members, aural warning sounds, and communications to and from aircraft necessary for flight operations. It is the intent of this standard to allow for the use of individual Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) or Flight Data Recorder (FDR) equipment, or a combination CVR/FDR.

Accelerometers are transducers, or sensors, that convert acceleration into an electrical signal which can be used for vibration monitoring and analysis. This document defines interface requirements for accelerometers and associated interfacing electronics for use in a helicopter Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS). The purpose is to standardize the accelerometer-to-electronics interface with the intent of increasing interchangeability among HUMS sensors/systems and reducing the cost of HUMS accelerometers. Although this interface was specified with an internally amplified piezoelectric accelerometer in mind, this does not preclude the use of any other sensor technology that meets the requirements given in this specification. These SAE HUMS Interface Specifications include the minimal interface and performance requirements for interoperability with the Rotorcraft Industry Technology Association (RITA) compliant HUMS. Compliance with these Interface Specifications can be referenced in more comprehensive procurement and device specifications.

This Aerospace Information Report, (AIR) is intended to provide the sponsors of Aerospace Standards, (AS), with standard wording, formatting, and minimum environment and design requirements for use in the preparation of their document. The individual shall use only those parts of this AIR which apply to their particular document. The individual sponsor may expand the standard wording, especially under Sections 4, 5, and 6 as required. The paragraphs of this AIR shall be used verbatim wherever possible. Unless otherwise directed by SAE, cross referenced documents shall be called out by specific revision letter, e.g. shall be in accordance with AS XXXXB. To recommend requirements for electrical Pressure Ratio Indicating Instruments for use in aircraft, the operation of which may subject the instruments to the environmental conditions specified in Para. 3.3. This recommended practice is to be considered as being currently applicable and necessarily subject to revision from time to time due to rapid development in the aircraft industry. This Aeronautical Recommended Practice covers two types of two unit Pressure Ratio Instruments each of which consist of a Transducer and an Indicator. The Transducer computes the ratio of two pressures and converts this ratio to a synchro electrical signal which is transmitted to the Indicator. TYPE I - All material in this document applies to this classification only. TYPE II - Additional material for this classification will be added to superseding issues as the state of the art permits.
