实验室以病理学系为主体，2003年成为教育部重点实验室，2005年通过评估，现为吉林大学“211工程”和“985工程”科技创新平台建设单位。2007年成立了“吉林省干细胞组织工程科技创新中心”及“吉林省组织修复与再生医学工程研究中心”，经过建设和发展，实验室形成了独具特色的干细胞组织工程学研究、肿瘤病理生物学与基因治疗、地理疾病病理生物学、新药创制及应用研究等四个研究方向。
实验室有研究人员53人，具有博士学位和留学经历的中青年学术骨干占80％。“长江学者和创新团队发展计划”创新团队1个，国家杰出青年科学基金获得者1人，“长江学者”特聘教授2人，吉林大学“唐敖庆特聘教授”3人。实验室总面积约为3200平米，仪器设备总值2109万元。
The laboratory was based on former Department of Pathology. It was named the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education in 2003 and passed the evaluation in 2005. Currently, our laboratory approved to be one member of “211-project” and ranked into "national 985 program". In 2007, we established “Jilin science and technology innovation center for stem cells and tissue engineering” and “Jilin research center for tissue repair and regeneration of medical engineering”. With development and construction, our laboratory has four main characteristic research areas which including study on stem cells and tissue engineering, tumor pathobiology and gene therapy, pathobiological research on endemic disease, new drug creating and application.
There are 53 faculties in our laboratory. 80% are young faculties who have ph.D and abroad study experience. There are 1 “Changjiang innovation team”, 1 “National outstanding youth science fund” scientist, 2 “Changjiang scholar” professors and 3 “Tang Ao-Qing scholar of Jilin University" professors. The laboratory occupied about 3200 square meters and with almost 21.09 million equipment support.
