This International Standard specifies the requirements for the design, construction, safety, performance and acceptance testing of windlasses and anchor capstans for inland vessels having electric, hydraulic, steam or external drive (see ISO 3828). NOTES 1 Where reference is made in the text to "windlass", it should be understood as "windlasses and anchor capstans" where applicable. 2 Windlasses and anchor capstans for sea-going vessels are covered by ISO 4568.
