Full Description Preface:
This is the first edition of CAN/CSA-ISO 17225-2, Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 2: Graded wood pellets, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 17225-2 (first edition, 2014-05-01).
For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as \"CAN/CSA-ISO 17225-2\" throughout.
This Standard is one of seven Standards developed by ISO/TC 238 on Solid Biofuels that are being adopted by CSA Group under the series Fuel specifications and classes, which consists of the following:
a) ISO 17225-1, Part 1: General requirements;
b) ISO 17225-2, Part 2: Graded wood pellets;
c) ISO 17225-3, Part 3: Graded wood briquettes;
d) ISO 17225-4, Part 4: Graded wood chips;
e) ISO 17225-5, Part 5: Graded firewood;
f) ISO 17225-6, Part 6: Graded non-woody pellets; and
g) ISO 17225-7, Part 7: Graded non-woody briquettes.
This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN/CSA-ISO 17225-1:15, Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 1: General requirements (adopted ISO 17225-1:2014).
The objective of the ISO 17225 series is to provide clear classification principles for solid biofuels and to serve as a tool to enable efficient trading of biofuels and enable a common understanding between producers and users. It will also facilitate authority permission procedures and reporting.
Scope:
This part of ISO 17225 determines the fuel quality classes and specifications of graded wood pellets for non-industrial and industrial use. This part of ISO 17225 covers only wood pellets produced from the following raw materials (see ISO 17225-1, Table 1): 1.1 Forest, plantation and other virgin wood; 1.2 By-products and residues from wood processing industry; 1.3.1 Chemically untreated used wood. Thermally treated biomass pellets (e.g. torrefied pellets) are not included in the scope of this part of ISO 17225. Torrefaction is a mild pre-treatment of biomass at a temperature between 200 °C to 300 °C.
