GENERAL 1. Maps of training areas will generally be produced by overprinting information of training facilities on the appropriate sheets of existing standard topographic maps (base maps) at the scale of 1:25.000 and 1:50.000. The sheet lines of training area maps may vary from those of the standard series used as base maps. Some small training areas may require maps at a larger scale (for example 1:10.000 or 1:5.000) to ensure that the relevant information is clearly depicted@ especially in the interests of safety. 2. The primary responsibility for production of maps of training areas will rest with the nation on whose territory the training area lies. If@ as an exception@ any other NATO nation produces maps of training areas located on the territory of another nation@ the producing nation will negotiate production with the host nation. 3. The NATO forces agree that when exercising in a given training areas@ they will only use maps published by the responsible producer nation.
