This standard covers compact steel gate valves that have an integral or welded male extension suitable for direct attachment as a branch connection. Valves shall conform to all requirements for Class 800 or Class 1500 valves specified in API Standard 602@ except as specifically modified in this standard. Valves shall be furnished male by female in NPS ?@ ?@ 1@ 1?@ and 2 (corresponding to ASME B36.10M or ASME B36.19M) and in NPS? male by NPS? female. One end of the valve shall have a threaded or socket-welding female connection. The other end shall have a male extension. (Threaded-end male extensions are not permitted for Class 1500 or for NPS? in Class 800.) The sketches in Tables 1 and 2 show some of the requirements of this standard@ as well as variations in commercial design on which the purchaser may exercise a choice. These illustrations are based on currently available designs. They should not be considered preferable to other designs that may be offered@ if the other designs conform to the requirements of this standard and API Standard 602.
