"This guide assists users in specifying the functional requirements for transmission static Var compensators (SVCs) using conventional thyristor technology. Many sections will be useful for compensator systems using gate turn-off thyristor technology [static synchronous compensator (STATCOM)] or other semiconductor devices@ or SVCs associated with high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations@ or industrial and distribution applications. Although this guide may not directly serve for SVCs primarily associated with industrial drives nor with the correction of load disturbances or phase unbalance@ many sections will be useful also for these applications. General terms and conditions forming the commercial part of a specification for a particular project are outside the scope of this document. Purpose This document presents technical sections that may be used as the basis of a functional SVC specification. The wording deliberately uses ""should"" rather than ""shall"" because this document is a guide@ not a specification. The user of this guide might wish to make this adjustment when converting sections into a specification. The guide describes the following: ??
