The test material@ API #79-6 Diesel Fuel (Marketplace)@was tested for potential acute toxicity@ using a battery of six tests: Primary Irritation@ Primary Eye Irritation@ Skin Sensitization@Acute Denial Toxicity@ Acute Oral Toxicity@and Subacute Dermal Toxicity. Materials@ methods@ and results of individual tests are presented in this report. The test material API #79-6 produced extremely irritating primary skin effects. The acute dermal test resulted in skin irritation but not systemic toxicity. Subacute dermal testing@ however@ produced not only acute dermal corrosion but also obvious treatment-related signs at the 4 ml/kg dosage levels; histopathologic examination of tissues confirmed dermal toxicity at all dosage levels and hepatic toxicity at the 8 ml/kg level. The oral median lethal does@ i.e.@ oral LD50@ of the test level is 9.0 mml/kg. the test material@ on the other hand@ was essen negative for primary eye irritation and did not cause skin sensitizing
