Package testing is performed to determine whether packaging materials withstand the typical stresses of shipping and transport processes. Raising the test package above a rigid plane surface and releasing it to strike this surface (the “impact surface”) after a free fall. The atmospheric conditions, the height of the drop and the attitude of the package need to be predetermined.
