UL Standard for Safety Field Conversion/Retrofit of Products to Change to an Alternative Refrigerant - Insulating Material and Refrigerant Compatibility First Edition; Reprint with Revisions Through and Including October 26, 2006
1.1 These requirments cover test procedures to be used for the evaluation of the compatability of an alternative refrigerant with hermetic motor-compressor insulating materials and lubricants used in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment when the alternative refrigerant is used to replace the existing refrigerant in existing equipment. 1.2 These requirements are primarily intended to be used to investigate the retrofit of existing equipment to alternative refrigerants for compliance with the requirements in this document and the documents specified in Section 2. 1.3 These requiremnts apply to the hermetic motor-compressed insulating materials used in equipment that has been previously investigated and found to comply with an applicable UL Standard of Safety since the year 1973. 1.4 The equipment mentioned in 1.3 include but are limited to remote commercial refrigerators and freezers, unit coolers, condensing units, split-system central cooling air conditioners and heat ppumps, and self-contained equipment such as commercial refrigerants and freezers, ice makers, ice cream makers, room air conditioners, central cooling air conditioners, heat pumps, and liquid chillers.
