1 This practice describes dosimetric procedures to be followed in characterizing, qualifying, and operating electron beam and bremsstrahlung irradiation facilities for food processing. Other procedures related to facility characteriza-tion, product qualification, and routine processing are also discussed.
2 The electron energy range covered in this practice is from 0.1 MeV to 10 MeV. Such electrons can be generated in continuous or pulse modes.
3 The maximum photon energy covered in this practice is 5 MeV. A photon beam can be generated by inserting a bremsstrahlung converter in the electron beam path.
