1.1 These requirements cover electrostatic discharge devices for personnel. These devices are intended
to be attached to a person and reduce electrostatic charge buildup on the wearer's body and thereby
protect static sensitive devices or equipment while being handled by the wearer. These requirements de
net cover the device's electrostatic discharge performance.
1.2 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different
from those covered by the requirements in this Outline of Investigation, and that involves a risk of fire,
electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and
end-product requirements to determine that the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this
Outline of Investigation is maintained. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials,
or systems conflict with specific requirements or previsions of this Outline of Investigation shall not be
judged to comply with this Outline of Investigation. Where appropriate, revision of requirements shall be
adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development and implementation of this Outline
of Investigation.
