Methods of test for petroleum and its products - Part 112: Determination of corrosiveness to copper of lubricating grease - Copper strip method (Identical with IP 112:2005)
This standard describes a method for the detection of substances corrosive to copper in lubricating greases under static conditions. It does not correlate with greases operating under dynamic conditions.
NOTE 1 - As lubricating greases are employed under a diversity of conditions, it is not possible to specify either the temperature or the duration of the test, but it is recommended that the temperature be not higher than 20 °C below the drop point of the sample.
NOTE 2 - In conformity with prevailing practice copper
strip has been described as the test metal but other metals may be used and forms other than strips may be used.
