This recommendation applies to signal generators generating substantially sinusoidal radio frequency voltages, sinusoidally amplitude modulated and having the following characteristics:
a) Within the limits of their effective ranges, the voltage, frequency and modulation factor are adjustable to values which are indicated on the generator.
b) The effective frequency range covers partly or completely the range 30 kHz to 1 000 MHz.
c) It is possible for the output signal to be modulated in amplitude at least at 1 000 Hz and it is possible to switch off the modulation. The modulation may be produced using either an internal or an external modulating oscillator. It is possible to modulate at least at a factor of 0.3.
d) The effective source elecfromotive force (e.m.f.) includes 0.2 V (matched output voltage range includes 0.1 V) and/or the effective output power range includes 0.2 mW in the rated load impedance.
If these values are not included, other rated values are to be stated by the manufacturer.
e) They are capable of operating from a.c. or d.c. supply mains or batteries.
f) They are intended for use with a matched load.
Nole. — Generators may be calibrated in terms of voltage or power or both. Where generators are calibrated in terms of voltage, the manufacturer may choose either source emf or matched output voltage or both Throughout this recommendation, wherever the three optional terms, source electromotive force, matched output voltage or power are referred to, the abbreviation "voltage" is used.
