This recommendation applies to generators of sinusoidal and/or square waveform signals intended for testing audio equipment, and having the following characteristics:
a) Within the limits of their effective ranges, the frequency and the source e.m.f. (or the matched output voltage) are adjustable to values which are indicated on the generator.
b) The effective frequency range covers partly or completely the range 1 Hz to 300 kHz.
c) The generator operates from a.c. or d.c. mains.
Notes 1. — The signal produced may be specified and indicated as either source e.m.f. or matched output voltage. Throughout this recommendation wherever the two optional terms are referred to, the words "source e.m.f. (or the matched output voltage)" are used.
2. — The application of this recommendation to battery-operated generators and generators supplying waveforms other than sinusoidal or square is under consideration.
