1.1 This standard is applicable to equipment intended to detect ionizing radiation from, and provide warning of, a criticality accident.
1.2 This standard is not applicable to indicating or recording instruments as such (for example, indicating meters). The operating characteristics of such instruments shall be in conformity with the general specification appropriate to them.
1.3 This standard is not applicable to equipment and assemblies used in control and safety systems of nuclear reactors.
1.4 This standard is primarily intended to apply to equipment design and, therefore, does not concern the need for placement of such equipment.
The need for criticality alarm systems and the utilization procedures are presented in Draft International Standard ISO/DIS 7753: Performance Requirements and Testing Procedures for Criticality Detection and Alarm Systems.
