1.1 This standard specifies types, manufacture, requirements, marking, sampling and criteria for conformity, and testing for safety relief device for gas cylinder.
1.2 This standard covers safety relief device for use with gas cylinders not exceeding 454 dm3 water capacity except for DOT 3AX and DOT 3AAX cylinders which may exceed 454 dm3 in water capacity.
1.3 All types of safety relief device given herein shall be permitted on cylinders for shipment of gases and liquids specified in Appendix B Table 1. They are prohibited on cylinders for shipment of the following:
(1) Liquid hydrocyanic acid or prussic
(2) Liquefied hydrocyanic acid
(3) Cyanogen gas
(4) Mustard gas
(5) Chloropicrin and methyl chloride mixtures
(6) Tetraethyl dithio pyrophosphate and compressed gas mixture
(7) Tetraethyl pyrophosphate and compressed gas mixture
(8) Parathion and compressed gas mixture
(9) Hexaethyl tetraphosphate and compressed gas mixture
(10) Poisonous liquid or gas, N.O.S.
(11) Cyanogen chloride containing less than 0.9% water
(12) Liquid nitrogen dioxide
(13) Nitrogen peroxide or nitrogen tetroxide
(14) Liquid bromoacetone
(15) Phosgene or diphosgene
(16) Phenylcarbylamine chloride
(17) Methyldichloroarsine
(18) Lewisite
(19) Ethyldichloroarsine
