This standard specifies a standard procedure for determining the content of both volatile and non-volatile matters in paints, varnishes and related materials at specified temperature and period of heating.
Note. The volatile and non-volatile matter content of a product is not an absolute quantity, but depends upon the temperature and period of heating used for the test. The temperature and period of heating recommended herein are 105 + 2°C and 3 hours respectively which are suitable for most purposes. If these conditions are unsuitable for example because the product is likely to decompose at 105°C, other specified conditions shall be applied.
