1.1 These requirements apply to power operated dispensing devices for use with motor fuels defined as gasoline/ethanol blends other than gasohol (E10). In addition, these requirements may be used to evaluate individual components of a dispensing device as indicated in 1.2. 1.2 In addition to the overall dispensing device, and in accordance with 1.1, these requirements shall apply to devices that are used to construct a dispensing device, including the following in both fluid confining and vapor recovery applications where applicable. a) Pumps; b) Meters; c) Strainers; d) Electrically operated valves (for use with flammable liquids); e) Hose nozzle valves; f) Mechanically operated valves including shear valves; g) Hose assemblies; h) Breakaway couplings; i) Swivel connectors; j) Pressure relief devices (for use with flammable liquids); k) Mechanical line leak detectors; l) Casting impregnation materials; and m) Gaskets and seals. 1.3 Requirements for the installation and use of these dispensing devices are included in the Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages, NFPA 30A, and the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. 1.4 These requirements apply to wiring methods used to install or interconnect such control equipment when the equipment is located directly on or within the housing of the dispensing device. 1.5 These requirements do not apply to control equipment that may authorize, monitor, or interrupt operation of a power-operated dispensing device, nor other auxiliary equipment. These products would be covered under the Standard for Control Equipment for Use With Flammable Liquid Dispensing Devices, UL 1238. 1.6 Requirements for dispensing devices for use with gasoline, gasoline/alcohol blends up to E10 or M10, diesel fuel, fuel oil, lubricating oil, or kerosene, are covered under the Standard for Power-Operated Flammable Liquid Dispensing Devices, UL 87. 1.7 These requirements do not cover dispensing devices for use with LP-Gas, which are covered under the Standard for Power-Operated Dispensing Devices for LP-Gas, UL 495.
