Thissafety Standard covers the design, construction, installation,operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, andrepair of inclined stairway chairlifts and inclined andvertical platform lifts intended for transportation of amobility impaired person only. The device shall have alimited vertical travel, operating speed, and platformarea. Operation shall be under continuous control ofthe user/attendant. The device shall not penetrate morethan one floor. A full passenger enclosure on the platformshall be prohibited.Equipment not covered by this Standard includes, butis not limited to, the following:(a) elevators, escalators, moving walkways, materiallifts, and dumbwaiters within the scope ofASME A17.1b–1997 and later edition(b) personnel hoists within the scope of ANSI A10.4(c) manlifts within the scope of ASME A90.1(d) powered platform and equipment for exterior andinterior building maintenance within the scope ofASME A120.1(e) portable equipment(f) amusement devices(g) stage and orchestra lifts
