This standard applies to mono- and multilingual entries in vocabularies and terminological databases. The objective of this standard is uniform use of typographical symbols and conventions. The specifications are based on scientific traditions as well as on the latest developments for hard- and software. The purpose of this standard is to ensure that users of vocabularies and terminological databases will not find identical or similar symbols or layout features to represent different information.
