This part of SANS 1582 specifies the characteristics of electrically operated vacuum cleaners for light industrial use, that have motors of rated input not exceeding 2 000 W and a dust/liquid receptacle of capacity not exceeding 85 L and that are intended for operation at voltages not exceeding 250 V to earth.
2. This part of SANS 1582 does not cover safety requirements. The Compulsory specification for electrical and electronic apparatus, as published by Government Notice R1792 (Government Gazette No. 17548) of 8 November 1996, gives safety requirements that have to be complied with by all electrical appliances.
