This standard specifies requirements for earth rods and couplers intended to be driven into the ground or installed into predrilled holes as part of an earthing system.
2 The following types of earth rods are covered:
a) copper rods;
b) steel-cored copper rods (copper-sheathed steel rods);
c) copper-electroplated steel rods; and
d) stainless steel rods.
3 Information regarding the selection and installation of the appropriate earth rod as part of an earth electrode for various types of installation and types of soil is given in SABS 0199.
