The object of this European Standard is to establish a nomenclature for European standard qualities of waste paper, by defining what they do and do not contain. It is not the purpose of this European Standard to specify all the qualities of waste paper that exist in the different markets, but rather to define those qualities commonly traded in the European markets. This European Standard is not valid for use in the food packaging field because of specific requirements of food contact and sanitary and health regulations.
Waste paper from general refuse sorting stations is not suitable for use in the paper industry. Waste paper originating from unseparated container collections, containing only material of a valuable, recyclable nature, has to be specifically marked. It has not to be used for materials and articles of paper and board for contact with foodstuffs, which have to comply with international or national sanitary regulations. It is not permissible to mix it unmarked with other waste paper.
