The purpose of this International Standard is to define and promote the use of a standard code for the unique identification of recordings. The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) may be applied to audio recordings and music video recordings regardless of whether they are in analog or digital formats. The IRSC shall not be used for the numbering of audio or audiovisuel carriers (e.g. compact discs or videocassettes).
