Biological measuring techniques for the determination and evaluation of effects of air pollutants (biomonitoring) - Determination of the growth rate of epiphytic lichens and bryophytes for monitoring of environmental changes
The standard enables a detailed recording of the development of lichens and bryophytes over time. The described method to accurate areal detection of lichens and bryophytes enables, e.g., the detection of potential damage to sensitive plants and ecosystems, documenting the impact of environmental events and air pollution eutrophication risks for vegetation as well as a local and small-scale documentation of air quality and the urban climate. The described method can also be applied for detecting the changes in biofilm from epiphytic algae, cyanobacteria, and fungi.
