Biological measuring techniques for the determination and evaluation of effects of air pollution on plants (bioindication) - Determination of genotoxic effects with the Tradescantia MCN test
The Tradescantia micronucleus test (Tradescantia MCN test) described in the standard allows for the determination of genotoxic effects of airborne pollutants in the form of elevated micronucleus formation rates in the pollen cells of spiderwort (Tradescantia sp.) and thus permits assessment of the genotoxic hazard potential of such pollutants for the living environment. Tradescantia provides direct proof of a biological effect after a given exposure time.
