Scope

This part of GB/T 3682 specifies the method for determining the melt mass flow rate (MFR) and melt volume flow rate (MVR) of thermoplastics under specified temperature and load conditions. Method A is a mass measurement method and Method B is a displacement measurement method. In general, thermoplastic material standards refer to this part to specify the test conditions for the determination of melt flow rate. Appendix A lists the commonly used test conditions for thermoplastics. Melt volume flow rate is particularly useful for comparing filled and unfilled thermoplastics, and for comparing filled materials with different filling levels. If the melt density of the material at the test temperature is known, the MFR can be determined from the measurement of the MVR, and vice versa. This section can also be used for thermoplastics whose rheological behavior is affected by hydrolysis (chain scission), polycondensation and crosslinking, but only when these effects and the repeatability and reproducibility of the test results are within an acceptable range. This standard does not apply to materials whose rheological behavior is significantly affected during the test. In these cases, GB/T 3682.2 can be used.
