This standard specifies the technical requirements for cathodic protection of steel bars in new and existing concrete structures, and is applicable to steel bars, prestressed bars, uncoated bars and organically coated bars in concrete structures. This standard applies to steel in structures exposed to the atmosphere, buried, underwater and in tidal environments. Note 1: Appendix A introduces the principle of cathodic protection and its application in concrete reinforcement. Note 2: This standard does not apply to the cathodic protection of steel bars in non-concrete electrolytes, but is applicable to the cathodic protection of steel bars in cement-based materials. For example, in the early 20th century
