- Scope
- This standard applies to the identification and marking of terminals such as resistors, fuses, relays, contactors, transformers, rotating electrical equipment and similar electrical equipment combinations (such as complete equipment), and also applies to the identification of certain specific conductor terminals. This standard specifies general rules for identifying conductors with specific colors or alphanumerics to avoid confusion and ensure safety. These conductor colors or alphanumerics are used for cables or cores, busbars, electrical equipment and installations. Basic safety publications are mainly used by technical committees when developing publications developed in accordance with the principles specified in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. This standard is not applicable to manufacturers or certification bodies. It is one of the duties of technical committees to, where applicable, cite underlying safety publications when developing standards, unless specifically citing or including related publications.
