Terms and Definitions for Industrial Process Measurement and Control specifies terminology for describing the characteristics, specifications, and qualifications of hardware and software systems and system components. These terms can be used to define other terms related to the working conditions that industrial process measurement and control equipment may face and may be affected. It is hoped that the education and publishing world will also adopt this term. This International Standard includes general and specialized terms used to describe the physical properties, uses, and performance of process industry measurement and control instrumentation devices and instrumentation systems. The process industry includes chemical, petrochemical and petroleum industries, power generation, food, textile and paper, metallurgical industry and air conditioning equipment and many other industrial industries. In using this International Standard, users should bear in mind that the main purpose of this International Standard is to serve as a common language for the discipline of industrial process measurement and control.
