Scope

This standard defines a mechanism that allows the upper layers of OSI (all session, presentation and application entities) to operate on top of the Internet Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) without knowing that they are running on the TCP/IP Internetwork. It provides similar functionality to ISO/IEC Transport Protocol Class 4. It does not provide a gateway facility between Internet OSI applications.
