Scope

This standard applies to gapless metal oxide surge arresters (hereinafter referred to as surge arresters) designed to limit overvoltages in AC power systems. This standard basically applies to all kinds of metal oxide arresters, but special consideration should be given to the design, test and use of composite jacket, GIS, immersion liquid and other specially designed arresters.
