Scope
This standard abstractly defines the media access control service formed in the local area network architecture according to the following contents: a) primitive actions and events of the service; b) parameters related to each primitive action and event and the form they take; C) The interrelationships between these actions and events and their effective sequence. The main objectives of this standard are: a) to specify the characteristics of a conceptual media access control service; b) to guide the development of media access control protocols; c) to guide the development of OSI protocols using MAC services. This International Standard does not prescribe individual implementations or products, nor does it limit the implementation of media access control entities and interfaces within the scope of an information processing system. This standard does not address conformity with equipment. Rather, this conformance is obtained through conforming implementations of the Media Access Control protocol, which implement the Media Access Control services defined in this standard.
