This standard applies to the hazards caused by knives used in woodworking machines, and describes the elimination or reduction of these hazards through the design of the knives and the provision of protective information. This standard deals with the hazards associated with the strength of the shank of milling cutters (bored milling cutters, shank milling cutters and milling cutters with integral spindle) and circular saw blades but does not include shank milling cutters. Hazards are listed in Chapter 5. This standard does not apply to drills, eccentric single routers, milling cutters with a cutting circle diameter less than 16 mm, and tools used on lathes and profiling lathes for rotary knives.
