This standard specifies the test method for the resistance to ozone cracking of vulcanized rubber or thermoplastic rubber exposed to air containing a certain concentration of ozone and in an environment with a specified temperature and no direct light influence under static tensile strain conditions. The ozone resistance of different rubber materials varies significantly with the ozone concentration and temperature. The degree of damage caused by the ozone test on the tensile strained sample and the product in use due to the action of ozone varies greatly due to the difference in size, type and strain. See Appendix A for notes on the nature of ozone cracking.
