- Scope
- This standard specifies the design requirements and performance characteristics of active direct-reading personal X and gamma radiation dose equivalent and dose equivalent rate monitors. This standard applies to monitors worn on the torso of the human body to measure the personal dose equivalent and personal dose equivalent rate of external exposure to X and gamma radiation received by the wearer (monitor for short). This standard is applicable to the measurement of personal dose equivalent and dose equivalent rate produced by X and 7 radiation in the energy range of 50 keV l.5 MeV. If the monitor is used to measure personal dose equivalents from photons with an energy upper limit of 10 MeV, such as gamma photons of 6 MeV energy present around reactor nuclear facilities, its response should be measured at the corresponding energy. The design requirements specified in this standard may not apply to pulsed radiated fields. This standard is not applicable to the measurement of neutron personal dose equivalent and personal dose equivalent of weak penetrating radiation, such as low-energy p-radiation, nor is it applicable to passive dosimeters, such as film dosimeters, thermoluminescent dosimeters and quartz wire electrometers dosimeter etc. This standard specifies that the monitor should be calibrated on a phantom, so it is not suitable for use as a portable measuring device. This standard specifies the general characteristics, inspection procedures, radiation characteristics, electrical characteristics, mechanical characteristics, safety characteristics and environmental characteristics of the above-mentioned monitors.
