Scope
This standard specifies the location and size of machine readable identification codes on 16 mm, 35 mm and 65 mm motion picture films, which are machine readable latent image retrieval codes. This standard also specifies the encoding format of these machine-readable codes and the scanning area and spectral characteristics of the scanner. 1.2 This standard also specifies the position, size and content of human-readable identification (retrieval) codes on 16mm, 35mm and 65mm motion picture film for shooting original or intermediate printing. These filmstrips also contain the machine-readable retrieval codes described in 1.1. NOTE: Typically these access codes are exposed on the film during manufacture. 1.3 This standard further specifies areas for printing of identification information for specific film types, at the option of the manufacturer. 1.4 This standard also stipulates the area on the film that is not allowed to be exposed by the film manufacturer. This area is reserved for the convenience of users to record data. 1.5 Finally, this standard specifies the optional format indicator marks for 35mm and 65mm films.
