Scope: This standard specifies the structural type, installation type and classification of terminal box positions of rotating electrical machines—IM codes. The two classification methods are defined as follows: Code 1 (see Chapter 2): Alphanumeric designation applies to motors with endshield bearings and a shaft extension. Code 2 (see Chapter 3): The all-digital code is applicable to a wider range of motor types, including those involved in code 1. Motor types not listed in code 2 shall be fully described in words. See Appendix A (informative appendix) for the relationship between Code 1 and Code 2.
