Scope: This Part specifies the type and size of taps with a nominal diameter of M3 to M24 and 1/8in to 1in with a thin shank. This section applies to machine taps with slender shanks. The technical conditions of the taps involved in this part (including signs) are in accordance with the provisions of ISO 8830. This standard applies to taps for producing the following threads: a) ISO metric threads — coarse; — fine. B) ISO British thread - "unified coarse thread" series (UNC) and "unified fine thread" series (UNF). The following imperial threads are not recommended - "British Standard Whitworth" (BSW) and "British Standard Fine Thread" (BSF); - "British Association Thread" (BA). Given in Appendix A.
