Scope

This standard applies to the measurement of partial discharges generated by electrical equipment, components and systems during AC voltage tests or DC voltage tests with a frequency of 400 Hz and below. This standard: - defines the terms of partial discharge; - defines the relevant measured parameters; - specifies the test circuit and measurement circuit used; - specifies the general analog and digital measurement methods; - gives The calibration method and the requirements for the calibration instrument are given; - The test procedure is given; - The criterion for distinguishing partial discharge from external interference is given. The provisions of this standard can be used to draft technical conditions for partial discharge measurement of specific electrical equipment. This standard mainly deals with the electrical measurement of pulsed (short duration) partial discharges, but also gives non-electrical measurement methods mainly used for localization of partial discharges (see annex F). The characteristic diagnosis of specific electrical equipment can be completed by digital processing of partial discharge signals (see Appendix E) and non-electrical measurement methods mainly used for partial discharge location (see Appendix F). This standard mainly describes the electrical measurement method of partial discharge during the AC voltage test, but also refers to the special problems that arise during the DC voltage test (see Chapter ll). The terms, definitions, basic test circuits and procedures of this standard are also generally applicable to tests performed at other frequencies, but special test methods and measurement system characteristics may be required, which are not considered in this standard. Appendix A gives the requirements for calibrator performance test as a standard requirement.
