This standard specifies the test method for determining the flash ignition temperature and autoignition temperature of plastics by hot air furnace method. It is one of the methods to evaluate the fire performance of plastics. This standard does not directly measure the burning value or burning rate of materials, or give the upper limit temperature of safe use of plastics. It cannot be used to describe or evaluate the hazards and risks of materials, products or finished products in actual fires. However, test results can be used as a factor in all relevant factors for fire hazard and risk assessment. The tests specified in this standard can be used to evaluate the relative fire performance of different materials. The values obtained under the test conditions represent the lowest ambient temperature at which the material can catch fire. The test results can be used as the basis for the classification of material fire sensitivity grades.
