This International Standard provides a three-character code structure and a corresponding three-digit code structure for representing currencies and funds. For currencies with auxiliary units, the decimal relationship between the auxiliary units and the local currency is also given. This standard also establishes the maintenance procedures of the maintenance organization and specifies the method of applying for codes. This International Standard applies to all areas of trade, commerce and banking where a description of money and funds is required. It is suitable not only for manual handling but also for automated handling systems.
