Scope

This standard stipulates the content and composition of the identification code of the world's manufacturers, so as to establish an identification system for road vehicle manufacturers worldwide. The World Manufacturer Identification Number (WMI) is the first part of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) described in GB l6735--2004. This standard applies to the automobiles, trailers, motorcycles and mopeds specified in GB/T 3730.1-2001 and GB/T 5359.1-1996, as well as other vehicles that need to be marked with VIN.
