Scope

This standard specifies the content and composition of vehicle identification codes, in order to establish a unified road vehicle identification code system worldwide. This standard also gives the location and fixing requirements of the VIN on the vehicle. This standard applies to the automobiles, trailers, motorcycles and mopeds specified in GB/T 3730.1-2001 and GB/T 5359.1-1996, as well as other vehicles that need to be marked with VIN.
