This standard is a method for determining the total sulfur content in vulcanized rubber with an oxygen combustion bottle. This method is applicable to the determination of total sulfur in the following various vulcanized rubbers (excluding sulfur in barium sulfate). Natural rubber; styrene-butadiene rubber; butadiene rubber; neoprene rubber; isoprene rubber; butyl rubber; EPDM rubber; This method gives unreliable (usually low) results for samples in which lead compounds are present. Antimony, barium, magnesium, and calcium salts interfere.
