- Scope
- This standard is applicable to alloy steel and non-alloy steel with sulfur content lower than 0.1%; steel with sulfur content higher than 0.1% can also be tested, but a very dilute sulfuric acid solution must be used. This standard can also be used for cast iron. This standard uses silver salts and sulfuric acid as a macroscopic inspection method for steel (Baumann method) by contact imprinting. This standard is equivalent to ISO4968-1979 "Steel-Sulfur Printing Low-magnification Inspection Method".
